Summary

Development studies is a book that critically guides the reader into the field of Development Studies. It introduces the reader into the multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary field while defining Development from different perspectives and reconciling them into a concrete whole. It then takes a reader from the theoretical to the practical perspectives of the developing countries in Africa; analyzing how the theories were put into practices, what were put into practice, where the implementation of those theories succeeded and where they failed and why. The principle auditors of development are the academics whose task is to assess the process within a given theoretical perspective, to understand how successful the architects are in shaping the process of social change according to their own environments. Lastly, the study examines what is available today as an alternative for development of the countries in the South, especially those in Africa and Tanzania in particular. This book, therefore, is a result of academic analysis of development in the developing countries using different theoretical perspectives. “A thought-provoking academic work that engages the reader in exploring the many facets of development. A must-read for teachers, students and enthusiasts of development studies." Deodat Mwesiumo, Associate Professor in Supply Chain Management, Molde University College, Norway.
