Summary

The present book is an initiative of the research laboratory in « societies, planning, development » of the DTU « Geography, history and sciences of heritage » of the Doctoral school « letters, civilizations and human sciences » of the university of Douala. It experiments a new approach of description and explanation of urban crisis in Cameroon from the analysis of correlation between the nature of urban dynamics and the nature of associated socio-spatial transformations. The eighteen contributions of this pluridisciplinary book restitute the results of empirical research on this correlation at the local and national levels. On the practical plan, observation, description, analyzes and interpretation of urban dynamics reveals a structural and functional disarticulation between logics, strategies and practices of urban actors which are the forerunners. This disarticulation is a response to the divergence of actor’s stages and interests, also to the contra-productive conflictuality in the domain of socio-spatial transformations which is tributary. In a nutshell, the malfunctioning of the universe of urban dynamics are forerunners disarticulated and anarchical socio-spatial transformations which entertains a generalized urban crisis and in perpetual dissonance with the aspirations of Cameroon town at the status of sustainable town. The urban crisis reveals to be a tangible expression of a negative correlation between urban dynamics and the tributaries socio-spatial transformations. Finally, the book prescribes the priorisation of regulating this negative correlation in the programmatic frames of urban development.

The author

Marie Louise BA’ANA ETOUNDI is a Cameroon university researcher (university of Douala) holder of a Doctorate degree new regime from the University of Paris IV Sorbonne. She works on questions related to urbanization, planning and development and on strategy of adaptation to sustainable development. Coordinator of research laboratory in « society, planning, development » and member of many research groups, laboratories and thinking society, she is authoress and co-authoress of scientific publications.
