Summary

This book explores the history of the colonial gendarmerie in Cameroon during close to four decades. This French military institution was installed in Cameroon in 1920 its area of competence was surely limited in the town of Duala. It later extends its units through out the territory. Its number was in sufficient, so this requires the putting in place of auxiliary an assist bodies. The National Gendarmerie would later participate in maintaining order in trouble zones. It participated in the fight against Cameroon Population union (UPC). At the eve of independence, it contributed in putting in place of Cameroon gendarmerie within the frame of reasonable program plan.

The author

Christian Gervais Moukam is a Cameroon university researcher, holder of a PND degree in history, obtained from the University of Yaoundé 1 and graduate with second grade from the higher Teachers. Training College of Yaoundé. He is associate staff in several private institutes of higher learning. He is the author of many scientific publications and member of many research groups.
