Summary

This methodological book analyzes the spirit and the letter of the habilitation to direct research (HDR) in Humanities and Social Sciences (SHS), helps the candidate to choose the doctoral school best adapted to his temperament and his methods and steers it in the maze of administrative procedures. The central difficulty of the HDR lies in the elaboration of the dissertation or final summary note. That is why this methodology book offers tips for writing it, a method for ordering it by suggesting several angles of presentation of the candidate's research work. An HDR memory allows several levels of reading: an intellectual biography; the respect of HDR criteria (the high scientific level of the candidate, the originality of the research in a sufficiently broad scientific or technological field, the mastery of a research strategy and the ability to supervise young researchers); epistemological and methodological reflection.
